Sandbox and creation: popular games and platforms

Offer freedom to build, explore or create activities. Roblox is a platform hosting experiences from many genres, rather than a single sandbox game.

Editorial review: October 10, 2026.

How popularity is measured

These examples appear in activity charts; they are not a worldwide ranking within this genre. Steam measures concurrent players in its own store, while Newzoo reports monthly active users for tracked markets. See the period in the references. Sales and downloads are different metrics.

Understand the platforms

PC identifies the desktop operating systems listed in each row. Android and iOS identify mobile apps. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5, and Switch and Switch 2 are different generations. Where only PS4 or Xbox One is listed, that is the referenced edition; compatibility on a newer console does not make it a native version. Cloud streaming and Remote Play are not counted as native mobile versions.
